Maurizio Sarri warns “the next could be my last year” at Napoli and he “dreams” of the Scudetto ahead of tomorrow’s Sassuolo trip.

“I am first of all glad that Lorenzo Insigne has signed the contract renewal and can become a symbol for his hometown club. These are romantic stories that are good for football,” said the Coach during today’s Press conference.

“We have to focus on Sassuolo, who are a very strong side and paid a heavy price for injuries along with their first European adventure. In a one-off match, they are very dangerous.”

Marek Hamsik remains in doubt after training separately from the rest of the squad over the last few days.

“We’ll see how he does today, but I think he’ll be there. It’s only a slight knock, Marek didn’t want to rest, but it was only right not to take too many risks.”

Questions turned to the future of Napoli and Sarri, who are fighting Roma for second place.

“Napoli are in a strong era and egotistically speaking I am happy to represent it, but for the long-term future there are many issues to be evaluated.

“The club cannot currently plan for the Scudetto, as there are much stronger sides out there. We must go beyond logic and see if there is still room for dreams in football. I am convinced that there are still dreams, poetry, soul and heart in the sport.

“We are growing in terms of mentality, but must work on the almost maniacal attention to detail. This side is ready to fight for its objectives, but we can take nothing for granted.

“It’s important to concede 21 goals rather than 31, as that could make the difference. We need to cancel out some of the stupid goals we let in.”

Sarri was asked about his own future after Insigne penned the new contract to June 2022.

“My contract expires next year, so seeing as there are clauses in place for me and for the club, in theory it could be my last year. It’s not something that bothers me that much, as in Serie B and C, my contracts were always about to run out.”

What will decide if Sarri remains at the Stadio San Paolo after 2018?

“I have no idea and I’m not thinking about it. What answer could I give? I told Aurelio (De Laurentiis) that the Scudetto cannot be planned if certain things don’t change, but it is our duty to believe in dreams.”
