Palermo President Paul Baccaglini released a statement to deny the takeover was in trouble, but warned “many of the current squad will not be here next season.”

The report emerged today that the closing of the deal would be delayed after the April 30 deadline.

Until that happens, Maurizio Zamparini is technically still the club’s owner, although he has resigned from the board of directors.

The report emerged today that the closing of the deal would be delayed after the April 30 deadline.

Until that happens, Maurizio Zamparini is technically still the club’s owner, although he has resigned from the board of directors.

“I consider it necessary to clarify the state of the situation and silence those who fill the quiet moments with allegations based on their own fantasy,” wrote Baccaglini in a statement on the Palermo website.

“There are lawyers, bankers and technicians who are working intensely to finalise the operation within the stabilised time-line. They are doing this in the way that serious business is conducted: silently and with discretion.

“In the meantime, we are working intensely on the planning for next season, that must see us become a strong, competitive team up to the standards of the club colours.

“The team, even though it is going through an extremely negative period, is always accompanied by the technical staff who look after every detail tied to Palermo Calcio with the usual great professionalism.

“It is, however, undeniable that the squad I inherited presents enormous problems when it comes to character. I am not evaluating the players as men, but as players who step on to the field every Sunday," he wrote after a 6-2 defeat to Lazio.

“The performances are absolutely disappointing and despite all attempts to shake up their determination to get results, we have not seen the reaction we asked for. You can lose, but it must be with heads held high.

“Talking about the reconstruction project, it’s therefore undeniable that many of the players in the current squad will not be part of Palermo’s future, which owes its fans and history a more consistent and impressive performance.

“My efforts and those of my team are intensely aimed towards the reconstruction of the project in future, seeing as the present we inherited is not up to our expectations.

“Forza Palermo! Paul Baccaglini.”
