Milan have officially confirmed the signing of Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez until June 2021 in a deal believed to be worth €18m.

The Swiss defender flew in for his medicals on Tuesday night, and spoke yesterday about his pride in joining the Rossoneri.

“More than important players, we need those who will show a certain enthusiasm for this jersey, which is why the first thing we do after the medical is give a tour of the trophy room,” said director Massimiliano Mirabelli in a Facebook video transmission.

Rodriguez signed the paperwork live online and shook hands with directors Marco Fassone and Mirabelli.

Rodriguez becomes the Diavolo’s third signing of the summer, following Mateo Musacchio and Franck Kessié to Milanello.

He was given a tour of the Milan HQ and trophy room, during which he appeared moved and pointed to the Champions League symbol: "That is where Milan belong. That is their home."

The player himself also wrote a letter to the fans of his former club.

“I would like to thank VfL Wolfsburg, all our fans, my team colleagues and all the employees for an unforgettable and very successful time,” Rodriguez said on the official Wolfsburg website.

“Together we have experienced and achieved a lot. I have developed here as a player, as well as a person, always felt very comfortable and won many friends.

“Nevertheless, it is now time for me to take the next step in my career. Milan is an international top club and a big new challenge for me.

“I am very grateful to those responsible at VfL that have allowed me the change.”
