Riccardo Montolivo admits Leonardo Bonucci’s transfer to Milan was “surprising, but with this transfer market there’s certainly more pressure.”

The Rossoneri have spent €211m so far this summer, with Lucas Biglia undergoing his medical this morning and a star striker still on the shopping list.

“I think the club is doing a great job on the market, at times even surprising,” confessed Montolivo in a Press conference as the pre-season tour of China began.

“Our objective has to be getting into the Champions League and that is a very exciting challenge, especially with all the new signings.

“In order to do well, a team needs 22-23 first choice players and the club is moving in that direction. I am happy for Bonucci, it was a surprising transfer, but he is a great player and I’m sure he’ll improve our game.

“The Europa League preliminary round with Craiova can already be considered the crossroads for our campaign.

“There’s certainly more pressure on us after this summer on the market, but I’m sure the more experienced players will be able to guide the team in the right direction.”
