Di Gennaro passed a medical with Lazio on Thursday, before travelling to their training camp in Auronzo di Cadore, where he met up with his new teammates for the first time.

“I’m very happy, proud and honoured to be here. I hope I can help [Lazio] have a good season,” he told LaLazioSiamoNoi.it.

“I worked hard to get here. I thank their President, sporting director and Coach for putting their faith in me and I hope I can repay them.

“I’m a versatile player, I’ve mainly played as a No 10, but I can also function as a midfield playmaker.

“It’ll be for the Coach to find the ideal XI, but I’ll be at his disposal.

“I left my house very early to get here, there’ll be time for my new teammates and I to get to know each other.

“Once I heard about Lazio’s interest, I didn’t listen to any other offers.

“It’s also for this reason that I didn’t renew with Cagliari because I was expecting a call from a top club, such as Lazio.

“Regardless of Europe, Lazio’s offer was a priority for me and I did everything to be here.”

The 29-year-old began his career at Milan, before going on to the likes of Reggina, Modena, Palermo and Cagliari.

However, he was dropped by the Sardinans for their final 11 games of last season once he made it clear that he would not sign a new contract with them.
