Vincenzo Montella warned Europa League preliminary round opponents Craiova “can be very dangerous if we don’t approach this the right way.”

The Rossoneri visit Romanian side Craiova on Thursday at 18.00 UK time (17.00 GMT).

“It might seem banal, but the truth is we need our fans,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Last year they were always with us, understanding our limitations. It’s a mature fanbase that was able to accept the reality of the last few seasons. Now we’ve got to keep the enthusiasm lit with our performances.

“Enthusiasm can become dangerous if we deal with it the wrong way. We spent so much on the market because we had to make up for the total lack of transfer activity in the previous few years. But there’s no rush, we’ll become a team week by week.

“We are a little behind Craiova in terms of fitness, so need to be aggressive and very concentrated. Craiova are tactically smart with a system that varies in the two phases of the game. They need to be attacked or we will struggle.

“I know everything about Craiova – the way the Coach things, how they play, and the fact we need to cut off their passing channels. Players like Baluta can really hurt us.

“I fear these early matches more than the group phase fixtures in Europe, as we’ll have more of an opportunity to grow over the course of the competition. Tomorrow the budget won’t be on the pitch, so that cannot be an alibi. It’s a very dangerous game if we don’t approach it the right way. I will not accept a different level of motivation.

“I feel the right kind of pressure now, but also curiosity, as I really can’t wait to see my team on the field.”

Milan are completely revamped with 10 new players and more on the way, although Leonardo Bonucci and Lucas Biglia weren’t registered in time, while Carlos Bacca and Gabriel Paletta are left out as they are on the market.

With Gianluca Lapadula already sold to Genoa, it means teenager Patrick Cutrone is one of the only available strikers.

“Patrick is growing a lot and really wants to be a protagonist. His characteristics remind me of when I was his age, although he’s perhaps hungrier for the goal than I was at that time.

“We’ve brought in some very good players, a mix between young and less young talents. Franck Kessie made a great impact and we paid a lot for him, but he was one of the first signings and we expect great things from him.

“M’Baye Niang lost his way, but has returned from the Watford loan experience a more mature player. The challenge now is getting him to maintain concentration for even longer.”
