Cengiz Under insists “you’ll remember me as Cengiz”, not Paulo Dybala, and that Roma “are not a stepping stone to a better team.”

Cengiz was unveiled by Roma on Friday alongside sporting director Monchi, having already made a positive impression during the Giallorossi’s preseason tour of the US.

“I come from a League similar to the Italian one,” began the Turkish attacker.

“When this opportunity came up, I accepted it immediately. I’ll get used to this strong style of football as time goes by. I don’t think I’ll find any problems here in the future.

“When I arrived here, it was my birthday, the airport welcomed me very much and I really liked it.

“I don’t speak Italian yet and that could put me at a disadvantage, but I’ve started lessons and I think I can learn it very quickly.

“I feel very much ready. I think I showed how ready I was when I was playing for Basaksehir. I scored seven goals last season and showed my qualities.

“Right now I feel ready, but you’ll see my qualities for a long time. We had a good time in America, I also scored there.

“I’ve felt ready from the start. Even in Turkey, they called me Dybala due to our physical resemblance, but I’ll remember that I’m Cengiz and I have my own qualities. You’ll remember me as Cengiz.

“Totti? I met him on the second day of my arrival. I’ve seen him at least 10 times, also because I’ve seen a lot of his videos. I was a fan of his.

“I’m sorry that he’s left football and I wanted to play with him. I could’ve learned a lot from him. It’s a shame.

“Turkey? I don’t want to talk about the national team. I know [new boss Mircea] Lucescu well, but I’ve never played under him so I don’t know.

“Still, I hope to be called up to the Turkish national team and it makes me very happy.

“Di Francesco? We understand each other through gestures, but it won’t always be like this. I’ve already said that I’m having Italian lessons to improve, and I think I’ll be speaking Italian soon.

“Differences from Turkey? There’s double training sessions here, whereas we didn’t do them in Turkey. We’re often in the gym and I do more physically.

“I didn’t do as much in Turkey. There’s more discipline here.

“I talked to [former Inter midfielder] Emre, among others. We know each other very well and I hold him dearly. I feel very lucky to have met him.

“Before I came here, we spoke and he told me that Italian football was very tough all the time.

“But he played in central midfield, while I play on the right. We have two different roles. We’ll see the differences together.

“Salih Ucan? Of course I talked to him. We have the same agent, we know each other well.

He had injuries and was unlucky here. It was a shame for him.

“He told me I’d adapt quickly and that the players would be close to me during my period of adaptation.

“My objective is to stay here for a long time and enjoy success with Roma. They’re not a stepping stone for a better team.

“Before saying anything like that, however, I have to prove my worth. My objective is to be a player who is liked and gives happiness to the Roma fans and executives.”
