Former Cagliari and Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino is heading back to Italy with the purchase of Serie B side Brescia.

“We are ready to accept Cellino’s offer and hope it is the right choice,” Brescia CEO Aldo Ghirardi told news agency Ansa.

“Over the next few days we will formalise everything.”

Brescia got into financial difficulties and former patron Gino Corioni sold the club to Marco Bonometti, who is now stepping down, in February 2015.

Cellino was the President of Cagliari from 1992 to 2014.

Cellino was the President of Cagliari from 1992 to 2014.

He then moved on to Leeds United, but he never quite settled amid controversy, repeated sackings and the difficulties passing the ‘fit and proper person’ tests.
