Juve lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, in their final friendly before the Supercoppa against Lazio next weekend, and Chiellini admitted his teammates were relieved about returning to Turin and not having to travel for a few days.

“In these three weeks, we spent more time traveling than training,” he said after the game.

“We definitely needed a game like this, with a bit more intensity and high tempo, for our official opener on Sunday.

“We’ve been working so hard and we’re looking forward to spending a few days to Turin without traveling.

“Spirit is what we’ve always had during a season. If we have the right mentality, application and desire to sacrifice, we won’t have any problems finding that spirit.

“New faces? I think they’ve done well, but they haven’t done much work with us yet. Douglas and Berna have great quality, and I think they can give us more than just options, different characteristics going forward.

“Mattia is a dead cert, he understands the need to work with serenity and he’ll give us a big hand. Then there’s this young lad, Bentancur, who can do well.

“I don’t know whether he’ll stay or not, but you can see that he was already playing with men in Argentina.

“Ready for Lazio? Yes, with great calmness.”
