Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe takes on Napoli today and fondly recalls going to study Maurizio Sarri’s training techniques. “I learned a great deal from that trip.”

The visit occurred when Sarri was still the Coach of Serie A minnows Empoli, but already gaining a reputation as the new Arrigo Sacchi, even using drone technology during his sessions to map movements.

“It’s going to be a real test for us, probably our hardest game of pre-season,” Howe told the Daily Echo.

“It’s going to be a real test for us, probably our hardest game of pre-season,” Howe told the Daily Echo.

“But it is ideally timed for us to get used to the type of opposition we are going to face week in, week out in the Premier League.

“They are an outstanding team, I would say that. It will be a special game. I have a lot of time for their manager, who I have seen work and built a relationship with.

“Sarri is very calm, very relaxed, very thoughtful as well and had an air of confidence about him. The work he did tactically was really good to see.

“I learned a great deal from that trip, so it will be nice to see him again. It’s no surprise for me to see him go on to such big club like Napoli and do so well.

“I think it’s important to go and broaden your horizons, meet new people and see different ways of working. Although it wasn’t the biggest club in the world at the time, I was really impressed by the work that was done at Empoli.”

The friendly kicks off at the Vitality Stadium at 19.30 UK time (18.30 GMT).
