This was the final friendly before next week’s Champions League play-off against Nice at the Stadio San Paolo.

Adri Lopez got down very quickly after four minutes for a one-handed save on Lorenzo Insigne’s angled drive, while Dries Mertens later had the ball in the net only after he’d been flagged offside.

Jorginho’s chipped free kick over the top released Insigne only to volley over the bar, then moments later he hit the side-netting from a Jose Callejon cross.

The deadlock was broken when Mertens curled in a splendid free kick after 36 minutes.

After the restart, Leo Baptistao went on the counter and flashed a dangerous cross-shot across the face of goal.

Marek Hamsik hit a genuine missile from 25 metres out that Adri Lopez flew to palm out from under the crossbar, but on the resulting corner, Raul Albiol was allowed a totally free header to double Napoli’s lead.

Insigne was about to tap in from a couple of yards when he was anticipated by a desperate Hernan Perez tackle and Arkadiusz Milik’s header looped off target.

Adam Ounas almost scored a stunning goal, as he turned Javi Fuego inside out before the low drive from the edge of the box thumped the upright.

Marko Rog also rattled the frame of the goal, but he was in an offside position.
