Mauro Icardi wrote a heartfelt letter to the Argentina jersey after the Inter striker’s international recall. “We meet again…”

The forward was inexplicably snubbed by his country’s football team, even when he was Capocannoniere of Serie A, scoring 97 goals in 188 top flight matches.

Now the 24-year-old is given a chance by new Coach Jorge Sampaoli, who called him up for World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay on August 31 and Venezuela on September 5.

“My dear Argentina, today after four years we meet again,” wrote Icardi on his Instagram page.

“The last time I wore these colours was in that distant 2013, fulfilling the dream of making my debut in the senior team aged just 20, thanks to my work and sacrifice.

“After a few games for the youth teams, the long-awaited moment arrived. Maybe it was not the best way or at the best moment, but the pride and the feeling of representing my country was something that cannot be explained.

“Today, four years later, I get this beautiful news, to be able to wear the most beautiful jersey in the world, which represents each of us, the Argentines, our country.

“That is why today I thank all those who trusted me. I do not like making promises, but of one thing I am sure: I will do everything for you, My dear Argentina.”

Icardi has only one senior cap for Argentina, earned on October 16, 2013 in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.

The then-20-year-old Sampdoria forward played for seven minutes in a 3-2 defeat in Montevideo.
