Hellas Verona beat Avellino 3-1 with a Daniele Verde brace and Bruno Zuculini strike to book a Coppa Italia appointment with city rivals Chievo.
Fabio Pecchia’s side began the season on the right foot and swept through to the Fourth Round of the competition.
Verde was the undoubted star of the night, scoring twice in four minutes just before half-time with a solo effort and meeting Alessio Cerci’s assist.
Avellino pulled one back after the break through Luigi Castaldo and Martin Caceres needed a goal-line clearance on his debut, but Bruno Zuculini nodded in a corner to stave off any nerves.
