“This is certainly the most evenly-balanced Serie A season of the last 10 years,” Vialli told Tuttosport.

“Many sides have strengthened, while Juventus – even if just for the law of averages – are no longer undoubted favourites. They have weakened at the back and I can’t understand why they keep insisting on Keita Balde Diao when that money should be invested in a defender.

“In fact, Milan have improved to such a degree that I feel it’s fair to say they have the strongest defence in Serie A now. Inter won’t play in Europe, so having the chance to prepare for one match per week is an enormous advantage for a strategist like Luciano Spalletti.

Napoli were already very strong and I believe Champions League qualification will let them buy someone else on the market.

“Basically, it’s very balanced and everyone has a good chance. Whoever sets themselves limits this season is making a mistake.

“As for the outsiders, I bet on Torino, as they already had a good framework and brought in some good summer buys.”
