“We had a good week in training and are eager to start the season on the right foot,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Luca Rossettini will play tomorrow, because Nicolas Spolli is injured, but naturally it’s not easy to start someone so soon after he joins the team.

“In attack Galabinov will play and we don’t know how he’ll do in Serie A, but the next few games will be a chance to prove himself. I am thinking of how to introduce Stephane Omeonga, who I really like, and Eddy Salcedo is a complete player too, even if he is only 15.

“The director of sport knows what we need in this squad, I just work on the training ground. We have many quality players who aren’t ready yet, from Gianluca Lapadula to Ricardo Centurion and Raffaele Palladino. We’ve had some physical issues, but these are aspects we cannot control. When everyone has recovered, I’ll have more choices.”

Sassuolo are under new Coach Cristian Bucchi after Eusebio Di Francesco moved to Roma, taking Lorenzo Pellegrini and Gregoire Defrel with him.

“The Neroverdi are now a consolidated Serie A side with financial backing and a strong organisation. Their strength is having so many Italians in the side and a fantastic potential in attack.

“If Genoa stay in Serie A, that will already be a real achievement. We begin this season with great humility and if we can turn that on its head to do better than expected, it’ll be even better.”

The transfer window closes on August 31 and Diego Laxalt has been linked with a move to Atalanta.

“Some played on knowing full well they’d be leaving, like Giovanni Simeone ahead of the Fiorentina transfer, but Laxalt has been affected by the rumours. This is the truth. I hope it can all be sorted out soon, because there’s no guarantee he’s going.”
