Baroni: 'Benevento bar is raised'

Benevento have first ever Serie A game tonight against Sampdoria. “When the bar is raised, you can’t be afraid to jump,” said Coach Marco Baroni.

It kicks off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT), click here for a match preview.

“We can’t wait, we’re motivated and ready for this first challenge,” said Coach Baroni in his Press conference.

“We’ve got to focus on one game at a time and have a team mentality, as that kind of determination and solidity will help us get over difficult hurdles.”

Benevento were promoted for the first time after a play-off victory over Carpi and until a year ago had never even played in Serie B.

“When the bar is raised, you mustn’t be afraid to jump. You need the same humility, concentration and focus, because in Serie A, a good performance can be wiped out in a second.

“We must have the courage to create dangers for an opponent that deserves respect, but not fear. Sampdoria are relatively unchanged from last season and are particularly good at close-passing moves.

“I’m happy that so many fans are making the trip to Genoa, as we experienced this dream with them and now reap the rewards of our labour together.”

There was some bad news for Benevento, as Fabio Ceravolo and Raman Chibsah are out injured, while Massimo Coda also requires a fitness test.

Midfielder Mirko Eramo sits out a ban.
