The 19-year-old centre-forward is expected to start at the Stadio Scida, because Andre Silva is rested ahead of Thursday’s Europa League trip to Shkendija.

“We’re giving it our all to sign him, but the matter is no longer up to us,” said director of sport Giuseppe Ursino.

“It’s down to Milan now. We want Cutrone, we’ve sought him constantly this summer and hope to seal a deal next week.”

Once Nikola Kalinic arrives from Fiorentina in a move worth €25m, then Milan are expected to let Cutrone leave on loan.

The teenager already made an impact with a goal at San Siro in the Europa League preliminary round against Craiova.

Meanwhile, Crotone have Adrian Stoian available again for the first time since he was hospitalised for a viral infection in April.

He famously watched his teammates play from out of the hospital window, as the building backs on to the Stadio Scida.

Crotone squad for Milan: Cordaz, Festa, Viscovo; Ajeti, Cabrera, Ceccherini, Dussenne, Faraoni, Martella, Sampirisi; Barberis, Borello, Crociata, Kragl, Izco, Mandragora, Nalini, Rohden, Stoian, Suljic; Budimir, Simy, Tonev, Trotta
