“I think the Argentines that have played for the Viola have gone on to become great players and left an important mark here. I know I have to bide my time,” he began.

“I have to work to get to know my teammates better, but with confidence I know I can become great in my five years here.

“Batistuta? I want to be Simeone, although he and Icardi are great players. Icardi’s an idol of mine, who deserves his [Argentina] call-up, and I hope to become like them.

“Where to improve? In a lot of areas. I’m 22 and I hope to become great here.

“Objectives? I have a personal and team objective of finishing as high as possible, near the top, and scoring 12 goals.

“Why my transfer took so long? These are market things, agreements between clubs and my representatives.

“I wanted to grow, even though we did well for the first six months at Genoa. I consider it a step forward, a challenge for myself.”
