Vincenzo Montella denies Mino Raiola’s claim Milan “promised Gianluigi Donnarumma the captain’s armband” and opens up for M’Baye Niang.

The Coach was asked about comments from agent Raiola that the Rossoneri had vowed to make him the new Rossoneri captain if he signed a contract extension.

Instead, the role was handed to newcomer Leonardo Bonucci on his debut after the move from Juventus.

“I respect everyone, but often too much importance is given to what others say,” noted Montella in a Press conference.

“The club never told me to give the armband to Gigio, let alone promised it to the lad or his entourage.

“He was told that maybe, over time, he would get it, but that is very different.”

Raiola also represents Niang, who is currently off training due to ‘stress’ after rejecting a Spartak Moscow transfer.

“I have an excellent rapport with Niang and hope he can recover soon, because he is a very sensitive guy. I’d like to speak to him some more.”
