Le Streghe thought they had equalised at the death, sending the Stadio Vigorito crowd wild, but it was correctly ruled offside using VAR after several minutes.

“Benevento put in a great performance, but once again today we conceded a goal on the counter and this team simply cannot afford to do that,” said Baroni in his Press conference after the 1-0 defeat.

“It’s something we really need to work on, but if we look at the overall standard of football, I saw little difference between us and Bologna.

“The way the goal was disallowed was painful, but if it was indeed offside, then we just have to accept it. I saw regret in the eyes of the lads along with the desire to make up for this as soon as possible.

“We know there are still a few things to do on the market, but it’s not easy because we are Serie A debutants. We need players who really join our cause.”
