Vincenzo Montella insists Suso was ‘never for sale’ after the Spaniard scored in Milan’s 2-1 win over Cagliari.
The 23-year-old was linked with a move away from the San Siro over the summer but was a key performer in the Rossoneri’s win tonight.
Speaking post-match, his Coach claimed the forward is held in very high regard by the Milan coaching staff.
“Suso is part of the Milan project, he is very well thought of by the coaching staff,” Montella began.
“We never thought of putting him up for sale. He is a decisive player.”
Following victory tonight, the Rossoneri have six points out of six from two Serie A matches played this season.
“It was a very difficult match, the last of a cycle of numerous games.
“We deserved the win, we went ahead and then we maybe subconsciously took our foot off the gas.
“They then did well. These wins are worth a lot in the grand scheme of a League season.
“I hope we can get more wins like this.”
Montella expressed his delight at the performance of Riccardo Montolivo, who recently made his comeback after long-term injury.
“If I have to single out any player I will do it to Montolivo. I have seen him grow a lot.
“After an injury of that type it needs time. Today he played well.”
The Milan boss refused to comment on M’Baye Niang’s future at the club.
“Niang? I can’t comment on that every time.”
Despite Milan’s winning start, the Coach is looking for his side to improve their in-game management.
“How can we improve? In our management of the game. I want to aim for important targets and we have to improve a little on that.
“I like that the team always go on the pitch to win. When you win, you work better.”
Finally, Montella said the upcoming international break will be better for him than most of his squad.
“I am learning that they are better for the staff and the Coaches.
“The players going away will not have time to rest.”
