The 31-year-old defender had been in advanced negotiations for the transfer, but problems emerged this afternoon and the deal was abandoned completely tonight.

“He will stay at Milan, he’s not going to Lazio,” agent Martin Guastadisegno told Sportitalia.

The representative also spoke to MilanNews.it.

“We had talked about it, then got closer to Lazio. Gabriel made his initial request and never moved from that. Unfortunately, we’re a long way off: he would like to go, but Lazio won’t reach what we asked for.

“He would’ve made an incredible effort to make it happen, but unfortunately it can’t.”

Guastadisegno then clarified to Tuttomercatoweb: "He asked for a three-year contract and we thought it would be an easy negotiation."

Paletta’s contract with the Rossoneri is due to expire at the end of this season and he has been left out of all competitive matches so far, as he was transfer-listed.

It’s not clear now if Milan will try to send him elsewhere.
