Zappacosta added to Italy squad

New Chelsea buy Davide Zappacosta has been called up by Italy for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Israel.

The Azzurri lost 3-0 to Spain last night and look set for a play-off in order to reach the 2018 tournament.

Leonardo Bonucci was booked and will be suspended against Israel, while Atalanta left-back Leonardo Spinazzola picked up an injury during the final minutes in Madrid.

Coach Giampiero Ventura needed reinforcements and has called in Zappacosta, who only just flew out to London on Thursday evening to complete his transfer from Torino to Chelsea.

The 25-year-old is a right-back who can also play as a right-wing-back.

Zappacosta has four senior Italy caps to his name, but has not been in the squad since March.
