“The transfer window has closed, we brought in some talented and motivated players, so we have the foundations to build on,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“It’s clear for all to see that signed quite a few players a little late, but that must be further motivation rather than an alibi. We’re not fully gelled, but should’ve put more into the performances we’ve had so far. We need more determination, focus and incisiveness in the key moments.

“It’ll take some time, but the squad has the characteristics we wanted. We are young, hungry and sharp. It’s important to play dynamic and quick football, aware we can win every game.

“The results have been negative so far, we have zero points, but the players seem convinced and have no doubts. They need to play and we all need positive results.”

Pioli confirmed Riccardo Saponara and Valentin Eysseric are unavailable for tomorrow’s game at the Bentegodi.

“We don’t want to just fill the box with Giovanni Simeone’s presence, but also support from the midfielders. It’s about more pace and precision in these attacking moves, that gives the centre-forward better service.

Verona are motivated and want to win. We know how they play, but our performance is going to be more important. We can’t give opponents too many reference points, so I like to have versatile players behind the striker.”

Fiorentina squad for Verona: Astori, Badelj, Benassi, Biraghi, Cerofolini, Chiesa, Cristoforo, Dias, Dragowski, Gaspar, Hagi, Babacar, Laurini, Lo Faso, Milenkovic, Olivera, Pezzella, Sanchez, Simeone, Sportiello, Thereau, Veretout, Hugo, Zekhnini
