The Sardegna Arena was opened with a slender 1-0 victory over Crotone, as Marco Sau got the decisive goal for Cagliari.
It was the first match played at the new stadium, which was built in only 127 days and will be Cagliari’s home for four years.
Homegrown talent Sau fittingly got the debut goal on this turf, springing the offside trap on a chipped Joao Pedro pass to beat Alex Cordaz.
Crotone have still never beaten Cagliari in the top flight, losing all three meetings, home and away.
