Filippo Inzaghi admits “I was split between my Milan and Simone” during Lazio’s 4-1 thrashing of the Rossoneri last weekend.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello for its Wednesday edition, Venezia boss Inzaghi also revealed he had only been to Venice twice and that Vincenzo Montella “would find the best solution” for Milan, providing he is given time.
“Have I been to Venice? I live in Mestre, opposite the club’s offices. I go running every morning,” explained Super Pippo.
“I’m in a tracksuit, I’m always on the pitch and with my staff at night to prepare for matches. It’s very sad, I admit…
“I’ve been twice. There was a restaurant in Piazza San Marco: I went for my birthday with my ex-girlfriend and parents to celebrate promotion.
“But I promise to go back there soon, this is the most beautiful city in the world.
“Back there soon? Maybe. Luckily, we’ve had some happy moments and did some great things last season.
“But I know there’ll also be dark moments in this job. I admit that on Sunday, I was split between my Milan and Simone...
“However, Milan had an excellent transfer window, and when things change so much, patience is needed and in Italy, we have little of it.
“I’ve already read about Coaches being at risk: so soon? It’s not right. Look at Napoli: they’ve been patient and now they’re very strong, Lazio too.
“Montella? The Coaches see their players every day, he’s a good guy and he’ll find the best solution.
“A good Coach finds the right ‘dress’ for his team. I’d always play with a 4-3-3, but I wouldn’t leave my team in the lurch. I’d be a fool.
“Simone? He’s happy and serene. Something special has happened to him, but I know how he understands football and how much commitment he puts in.
“Simone was under threat from the messiah Bielsa, but he’s done well. Now he has so much commitment and a good-sized squad. He must put together another masterpiece.”
