“I was fortunate enough to meet President Joey Saputo, who I thank,” the World Cup winner told reporters in Canada.

“I had the chance to train here and I hope something more can come of it. We’ll see. I already could’ve come here three years ago, but I was coming back from China and because of my family I opted to remain in Italy.

“I am 35 years old, but I’m still in good shape, even if I’m lacking match fitness right now. The objective is to score many goals.

“I want to join Montreal Impact and end my career here in MLS. I am open to any contractual situation, including signing on for the remaining games this season, without an option for next term. The club will decide what to do.”
