Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked by Bayern Munich, the German club have confirmed.

The Bundesliga champions have endured a difficult start to the season by their own high standards, culminating in a 3-0 thrashing by Paris Saint-Germain last night.

Rumours began to emerge this morning that the Italian Coach was in danger of losing his job, following pushback from some of the players.

Now the Bavarian club have confirmed Carletto’s departure after just one full season of his three-year contract.

As a result of an internal analysis after the 3-0 defeat in the Champions League group game at Paris Saint-Germain, FC Bayern München has released Carlo Ancelotti," a statement on the club's official website confirms.

"As well as the Italian Coach Ancelotti, Davide Ancelotti, Giovanni Mauri, Francesco Mauri and Mino Fulco have been released by FC Bayern München today.

"Asssistant coach Willy Sagnol has been placed in charge of first team affairs on an interim basis. Sagnol will be on the bench as interim Coach against Hertha BSC on Sunday."

Hoffenheim Coach Julian Nagelsmann is expected to take over the job next summer.

Ancelotti has been linked with a return to Milan, where he won the Champions League twice in his previous spell.
