Carlo Ancelotti reveals Roma asked him to take the Olimpico job two years ago, “but I had already signed for Bayern Munich.”

The Italian tactician was fired by Bayern last week and has therefore been linked with numerous benches, including Milan and the Italy squad.

“(President James) Pallotta called me two years ago to bring me to Roma, but I had already signed for Bayern,” Ancelotti told Il Messaggero.

The timing suggests it was when Rudi Garcia was fired in 2015 and the Giallorossi eventually hired Luciano Spalletti instead.

Ancelotti has always admitted he’d love to be in charge of Roma, having spent most of his playing career with them from 1979 to 1987.

Meanwhile, despite being in Italy at the moment, Carletto is keeping a low profile.

“I won’t go to games like Italy-Macedonia or the Milan Derby, as I don’t want to spark unnecessary speculation or cause problems for anyone else.”
