Marco Giampaolo concedes Atalanta “are the opponent that caused us the most problems” after a hard-fought 3-1 Sampdoria victory.
Bryan Cristante had put the visitors ahead in a dominant first half, but the Blucerchiati turned it around thanks largely to their substitutions.
“The credit only goes to the players, I just make choices,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“Atalanta are a really strong side with confidence, they rarely give the ball away and are the opponent that caused us the most problems. In the second half, we managed to find a few more spaces and expressed ourselves better.
“I told the squad they must have an identity and express their feelings through football. Our marvellous fans deserve that.
“We were trailing at the break and by simply exchanging one trequartista for another, I would not have changed the trend of the match, so I put on Gianluca Caprari. He’s good at taking men on and was able to change the balance.”
