Brazil “intended to call Jorginho in March,” reveals his agent, but the Napoli midfielder is committed to Italy, especially for the future.

The Brazil-born talent is still eligible for both nations, as he has so far only played for the Azzurri in friendlies, but has been called up for the World Cup play-off against Sweden.

“The Brazil staff intended to call Jorginho in March for their last friendly before the World Cup, but Italy anticipated the decision and Jorginho will wear the Azzurri jersey,” agent Joao Santos told Radio Sportiva.

“The Brazil staff intended to call Jorginho in March for their last friendly before the World Cup, but Italy anticipated the decision and Jorginho will wear the Azzurri jersey,” agent Joao Santos told Radio Sportiva.

“Brazil play in a very different way, but he could comfortably have been part of that squad. In Brazil, your technique counts more than the tactics. Jorginho can give a contribution with his characteristics.”

Giampiero Ventura had frozen him out of the Nazionale, insisting the player didn’t suit his 4-2-4 tactical set-up.

However, there seems to be no place for Jorginho in the 3-5-2 approach that will likely be used against Sweden.

“I don’t know how Ventura will play, but Jorginho is at his disposal and will give his best. He is ready if the Coach needs him.

“The choice has been made to play for Italy. It’s not as if he’ll retire tomorrow, he’ll be playing for another 10 years at least, so if he doesn’t have a chance with Italy now, he will do in future.

“Right now, he is concentrated only on helping Italy achieve World Cup qualification.”
