Shakhtar Donetsk Coach Paulo Fonseca insists they only fell to Napoli thanks to “a moment of genius from Lorenzo Insigne” in the 3-0 result.
“The match seemed very balanced until Insigne’s goal. The team held out well and then there was that moment of genius from Lorenzo. Up until that point, we’d had the best two chances,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
“Napoli didn’t have many scoring opportunities until that moment. After Insigne broke through with that goal out of nowhere, we had to push forward and allow more spaces, running more risks. The 3-0 result is very harsh considering the performance.
“I must say that I really appreciated my players fighting to the end, despite the result. They played well to the final whistle.”
Napoli can only qualify for the Round of 16 if they beat Feyenoord and Manchester City defeat Shakhtar in Ukraine.
“I will prepare for the Manchester City game the same way I did tonight. We proved that we’re more than capable of attacking and defending well, so our tactics will not change. Even if City rotate the squad, they will still have some great talents, so it makes little difference.
“Losing a defender with the experience of Darijo Srna is obviously going to influence the game. No offence to Butko, but someone like Srna is difficult to replace.”
Fonseca said in yesterday’s Press conference that if Shakhtar qualify for the Round of 16, he’ll dress up as Zorro for the final match.
“I told our director to prepare the mask. You will see me in a Zorro mask, I am convinced of that. In conclusion I congratulate Napoli and wish them good fortune and happiness… only in Serie A, though!”
