Mido claims he left Roma because Francesco Totti “decided to become the central striker”, noting “I could compete with anyone in the world, except Totti”.
The Egyptian striker joined the Giallorossi in 2004, but played just 14 games for the club without scoring a single goal.
His final match for the club was an appearance in the 2006 Supercoppa Italiana, following an 18-month loan spell with Tottenham Hotspur, who he eventually joined outright.
“After the 2006 Supercoppa, Totti decided to become the central striker,” Mido told On Sport.
“[Agent Mino] Raiola advised me to stay at Roma, but I told him no. I could compete with anyone in the world, except Totti.
“So that’s why I went to Tottenham.”
