Higuain remains a huge doubt to feature, as he underwent surgery on a broken finger this week and was expected to only be on the bench.

However, there was a sudden blow in today’s training session with injuries to Mandzukic – who was meant to replace Higuain in attack – and Howedes.

A note on the club website confirms Mandzukic suffered problems in his left calf muscle, while Howedes has a right thigh issue.

Federico Bernardeschi, Juan Cuadrado and Giorgio Chiellini return to the side after injury worries, but Paulo Dybala now may well be used as a False 9.
