Eusebio Di Francesco said Roma “wanted victory at all costs” against SPAL, but was angry that they failed to keep a clean sheet.

“We had 37 shots on goal today, but can do much better with our finishing. I am really annoyed at conceding the goal,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium after a 3-1 result.

“We wanted the win at all costs. It’s important to eliminate these little distractions. SPAL barely had a shot on goal and we needed the win to prepare in the best way for Qarabag.

“Our objective is to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 with a victory against Qarabag. The psychological approach we saw today was good and we need it again on Tuesday.”

Maxime Gonalons stepped in for suspended Daniele De Rossi, while Radja Nainggolan and Diego Perotti were injured.

“I didn’t want Gonalons to be sent off after his yellow card. Cengiz Under doesn’t yet always make the right choices and in my view he takes an extra touch too often.

“I am convinced this squad is aware of its capabilities. We must never be distracted during a game, as you need to be on point to get the victory. What irritated me was conceding a goal when it was entirely unnecessary.

“It is from a great defensive movement that a great attacking movement is born.”
