“We must make their motivation turn into further motivation for us. We know it’s difficult, but we are accustomed to overcoming the odds and facing down tough obstacles. We’re prepared for this test.

“There will undoubtedly be a great atmosphere at San Siro and that can fire us up as well as them. We’ve got to ultimately think of Inter’s characteristics and the fact that when we put in a certain type of performance, we can trouble anyone.”

The Flying Donkeys are missing several important midfield players, as Perparim Hetemaj and Lucas Castro are injured, with Ivan Radovanovic suspended.

“It’s going to be a brand-new midfield we’ve not seen before, but I am convinced the players will be determined to prove themselves.

“We’ve had a consistent growth against bigger clubs and are aware that our training ground routines are becoming more and more apparent in match situations.

“Inter found their balance this season and you can see Luciano Spalletti’s influence in both performances and results. In a short space of time, he has been able to unite the squad.

“This game will be played at great intensity from both sides and the fact these are two teams who cross a great deal will probably show through in the chances created.”

Chievo had a setback midweek with their Coppa Italia exit at the hands of local rivals Hellas Verona, going out on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

“We really wanted to progress in that competition and are disappointed, because we deserved to go through. Anything can happen in a shoot-out.”

Chievo squad for Inter: Sorrentino, Seculin, Confente; Jaroszynski, Dainelli, Gamberini, Cesar, Bani, Gobbi, Depaoli, Cacciatore, Tomovic; Rigoni, Garritano, Gaudino, Birsa, Bastien; Stepinski, Leris, Pucciarelli, Pellissier, Inglese, Meggiorini
