Diego Lopez saw “a very important point” after Cagliari came back from 2-0 down to hold Sampdoria. “We got something out of this game.”

A Fabio Quagliarella brace had put the Blucerchiati in the driving seat after just 19 minutes, but two goals in quick succession after the break wiped out the lead.

“It is a very important point,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia. “I told the lads at half-time that there wasn’t much to say. It’s not easy when you concede two goals like that, especially when we had the chances to score two even earlier.

“Fabio Quagliarella always made me suffer when I was a player and now he makes me suffer as a Coach too! My team fought to the end and proved matches are never over.”

Cagliari were extraordinarily unlucky, losing Rafael in the warm-up and another three players to injury before half-time.

“I’d never had that happen to me before, to suffer four injuries and use up all three substitutions by the 38th minute. The fact we fought to the end and got something out of this game is a great sign for the team.

“I thank Alessio Cragno, because he wasn’t meant to play and could not take the goal kicks, but Rafael is still injured.”
