Words: Ciro Di Brita @Ciruzzo36

Pepe Reina –  6

Made a couple of comfortable saves in the first half to thwart Giovanni Simeone, but was a spectator in the second.

Elseid Hysaj – 5

Failed to get up and support Jose Callejon or add anything in the attack. Gave the ball away too easily, too often.

Raul Albiol – 6

Pepe Reina –  6

Made a couple of comfortable saves in the first half to thwart Giovanni Simeone, but was a spectator in the second.

Elseid Hysaj – 5

Failed to get up and support Jose Callejon or add anything in the attack. Gave the ball away too easily, too often.

Raul Albiol – 6

The Spaniard and Kalidou Koulibaly had their hands full all game in dealing with Giovanni Simone and Cyril Thereau, was beaten for pace by the younger Cholito, but recovered well.

Kalidou Koulibaly –  6

The big Senegalese centre-back was given the run-around by Fiorentina’s quick counters, but did enough defensively and tried in vain to get his side further up the pitch.

Mario Rui – 6

Pushed back by Federico Chiesa and had to first to take care of his defensive duties instead of joining in on the attacking side of Napoli’s movements

Allan – 8

Was outnumbered in midfield, but battled bravely away in the first half. Picked out Piotr Zielinski with a perfectly weighted pass, but the Pole could only blaze over the bar. Was Napoli’s only driving force from midfield. Made two lovely assists that should have ended up as goals.

Jorginho –  6

Poor regista was left hung out to dry when he had the ball and looked up to see who was available for a pass, had nothing to aim at all game. With no-one to roll his passes in to, he was quickly closed down when he had to cut back and look for another option.

Marek Hamsik – 4

An apparition on the field, when he got the ball he quickly passed it backwards, did not lead his side and has been AWOL for months now.

Jose Callejon – 3

Broke down his own side’s attacking rhythm time after time, the Spaniard is completely out of form and needs to ride the pine for a while.

Dries Mertens – 6

Was much sharper than previous matches in the opening minutes, tried a bit too hard in the first half. Kept coming deep to look for the ball and tracked back to his own box to chase down Fiorentina players. Maurizio Sarri must have had a word at the break and told him to hold his position, but disappeared from the game then. Shot straight at Marco Sportiello when he found himself one on one.

Piotr Zielinski – 6

Tried to get himself involved, but simply doesn’t have the discipline to play the Lorenzo Insigne role on the wing. Kept drifting into midfield, forced Sportiello to push his shot onto the post in the second half.

Substitutes:

Adam Ounas – 6

Came on for Zielinski for the last 20 minutes or so, was the only Napoli player to shoot from outside the box.

Marko Rog – 6

Came on for Allan, who was Napoli’s best player on the night, a substitution that made no sense when both Hamsik and Callejon stayed on.

Amadou Diawara– N/A

Replaced Jorginho in another pointless substitution.
