Atalanta midfielder Marten De Roon can see Italy improvements already under new Coach Roberto Mancini ahead of the Netherlands test.

It kicks off in Turin on Monday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

This is the third friendly in the Mancini era after a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia and 3-1 loss to France.

“I saw an interesting Italy performance against France and they are slowly improving,” Dutchman De Roon told reporters.

“They had quite a few scoring opportunities and it’s good to see that the approach is changing.”

This fixture was meant to be a World Cup warm-up, but neither side is in the tournament this summer.

“It was worse for Italy, as they hadn’t missed out in 60 years, but it was a sad time for both nations. The only positive is that none of my Italian teammates can mock me…”

That includes Atalanta defender Mattia Caldara, who is expected to start tomorrow.

“I haven’t heard from him, but I will send a message of congratulations on his second consecutive start.”
