Former Milan striker Nikola Kalinic will wear Atletico Madrid’s No 9 shirt this season.

Kalinic takes the jersey last worn by another ex-Milan forward Fernando Torres, who left Atleti over the summer to sign for Japanese club Sagan Tosu.

The Spaniards’ official website notes ‘it isn’t a new number for the battering ram’, given he also had it at Hajduk Split, Blackburn Rovers, Dnipro and Fiorentina.

However, he wore the No 7 jersey at San Siro, during a 2017-18 season that spawned just six goals from the 30-year-old.
