“It was a beautiful week, we got up straight away after the KO against Juventus,” the 26-year-old said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Winning against Liverpool was an unforgettable emotion that I’ll carry with me for my whole life.

“The week continued perfectly with the win against Sassuolo, a good team who play well. We knew it’d be difficult, they caused problems for Inter and Juve, and we did well not to underestimate them.

“We managed to win it with a great goal by Lorenzo Insigne, who can always make his contribution, even when he comes off the bench.

“[Coach Carlo] Ancelotti keeps everyone involved, he lets everyone play and that’s a positive thing because everyone feels just as important.

“Obviously some people will play more and some will play less. The important thing is always to take your chance, and so far everyone has succeeded.”

Verdi could have moved to Naples in January, but he opted to remain with Bologna.

“It wasn’t a rejection of Napoli, it was a yes to Bologna. The club had shown faith in me when I didn’t do very well in previous years.”
