Josema Gimenez has admitted that Atletico Madrid will miss Diego Godin ahead of his proposed transfer to Inter this summer.

Gimenez and Godin have formed the heart of Atleti’s central defence for the past five years, and the Uruguayan paid tribute to his countryman and partner at the back.

“There’s been a lot of talk about his departure but as long as Diego is here, we’ll continue to enjoy him and, above all, learn from him,” the 24-year-old [pictured, left] told Telemundo.

“If he ends up leaving, we’ll miss him. At the same time, however, everything he did for Atletico will remain and all our fans will be eternally grateful.”

The pair are set to face Juventus in the second leg of Los Colchoneros’ Champions League last-16 tie next week, with their side 2-0 up on aggregate.
