Chelsea have formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over their FIFA-imposed transfer ban.

Chelsea were banned from registering new players for two transfer windows in February, prompting them to take action.

Their plea for the embargo to be frozen during the appeals process was then followed by FIFA standing by its verdict.

However, it was confirmed on Friday that the Blues had taken their case – which relates to alleged breaches over the signings of minors – to CAS.

As it stands, Maurizio Sarri’s side cannot register any new players this summer or next January, casting doubt over the future of Juventus loanee Gonzalo Higuain.

It comes less than 24 hours after Manchester City lodged an appeal with CAS over UEFA’s Financial Fair Play allegations.

UEFA also announced on Wednesday that it had suspended proceedings against Milan until after their appeal to the judicial body had been resolved.
