This was the second game of their pre-season tour of the UK after a 2-1 defeat to Swansea City.

It was an aggressive start from the hosts, whose Premier League season begins in 10 days, as Jose Luis Palomino and Robin Gosens needed early sliding tackles in the box.

The Canaries took the lead through Todd Cantwell, who pounced on a defensive error to go clear and beat Pierluigi Gollini.

Atalanta started to warm up as Papu Gomez did, the captain nutmegging Tom Trybull and Muriel curling just over the bar.

There was bad news for the Orobici, as Josip Ilicic limped off just before half-time, but they equalised moments later when an awful Timm Klose back-pass was pounced on by Muriel to blast into the roof of the net.

Gollini did well to deny Finland international Teemu Pukki and Muriel remained a lively figure upfront.

Duvan Zapata and Marten de Roon had a quick passing move and Muriel tapped in. It was initially ruled offside, but VAR confirmed it was level and the Colombian had his second of the game.

Zapata almost scored himself when running on to a long Muriel ball and flicking it past the on-rushing goalkeeper, but McLean got back for a goal-line clearance.

Andrea Masiello thought he’d found the net with a stunning overhead kick, but was denied by Ralf Fahrmann’s acrobatic save, while Ruslan Malinovskyi’s diving header was off target.

A ferocious Mario Vrancic free kick skimmed the bar and Duvan Zapata accidentally deflected the ball into the net off his arm.

Atalanta did get their third with a trademark one-touch passing move. Musa Barrow and Timothy Castagne risked over-egging it with one too many passes, but eventually rolled across for Mario Pasalic to drill home from close range.

Barrow stung Fahrmann’s gloves with a curler from outside the box in the final minutes, as Atalanta ended pinning Norwich back.

In fact, Barrow did get the fourth goal in stoppages when he sprung the offside trap in midfield and turned on the afterburners.
