Gian Piero Gasperini appreciated Atalanta’s belief to beat Genoa 2-1. “We did enough to deserve the victory.”

The Orobici thought they’d stalled again when Domenico Criscito’s penalty cancelled out the Luis Muriel opener, but deep into stoppages Duvan Zapata hit a screamer off the underside of the bar.

“It was a hard-fought game, we were up against a very impressive Genoa,” Gasperini told DAZN.

“It was a hard-fought game, we were up against a very impressive Genoa,” Gasperini told DAZN.

“However, Atalanta did enough to deserve the victory. Duvan Zapata’s goal was, in my view, the fair result.”

Genoa’s equaliser was an extremely dubious spot-kick, as Christian Kouame seemed to go down with barely any contact.

It’s reported there was a radio issue with the VAR booth, which is why the referee was not urged to reconsider his decision with an on-field review.

“There are some strange incidents and it would’ve been very difficult to accept that being a decisive penalty. We have the technology, something has to be done to fix these errors.

“The fact we always believed in ourselves and finished strong is a great sign, even if we lacked some sharpness in the final third.”
