Blaise Matuidi insists he was never close to leaving Juventus over the summer and that they “only have a small problem with set-pieces.”

Matuidi was heavily linked with a move away from Juve but ended up staying and has been an ever-present so far this season.

“You were convinced that I’d leave in the summer, but I never considered this opportunity,” the midfielder told Tuttomercatoweb.

Matuidi was heavily linked with a move away from Juve but ended up staying and has been an ever-present so far this season.

“You were convinced that I’d leave in the summer, but I never considered this opportunity,” the midfielder told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I work every day for the team and I’m only thinking about what happens on the pitch. Juve are a great team and they give me so much confidence.”

The Old Lady drew 2-2 with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday but only after they had led 2-0, conceding both of their goals from dead balls.

“We had a good game against Atletico, creating lots of chances. We only have a small problem with set-pieces and we’re working hard to prevent it from happening again.

“I should’ve done more to put off Herrera for 2-2, so we all still have a lot to learn.”

The 32-year-old was then asked about racism in Italy, having suffered it first-hand.

“We must ban the racist chants. We mustn’t let in those who do it. The technology is there to identify the people responsible.

“It’s useless to punish those who aren’t at fault and therefore those who come only to support their team.”
