Perugia struggled to make something out of their few other chances, as Napoli controlled the match and introduced their new signing from RB Leipzig after 65 minutes.

Demme came on for Fabian Ruiz and the stadium applauded the introduction of the German midfielder.

The Partenopei forward Insigne scored from two penalties in the first half against the Serie B side, who were punished by their lack of concentration against the Serie A giants.

After 26 minutes, Hirving Lozano was awarded a penalty as he was brought down by the Belgian defender Mardochee Nzita and Insigne put the ball safely past Andrea Fulignati in the Perugia goal.

Only 12 minutes later, Napoli were awarded another spot-kick, when Pietro Iemmello handled the ball in his own area.

The Grifoni attacker was awarded a yellow card for his protests as Insigne stepped up to safely put Napoli two ahead.

Right before half time, Perugia received a lifeline as VAR gave them the opportunity to reduce the gap with a penalty of their own.

Elseid Hysaj was punished for a handball in the area and Iemmello stepped up to make up for his previous mistake at the back.

But Ospina saved his effort and after six minutes of stoppage time, Napoli went to the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Iemmello had another chance blocked by Ospina after the break, before the Partenopei managed to protect their lead against a hesitant away side.

The team from the second tier came to a few chances also after the break, but never threatened to take Napoli's place in the last eight of the tournament.

The Azzurri introduced their new midfielder Demme after 65 minutes. Ruiz came off and the former RB Leipzig captain came on to play the last 25 minutes.

A routine win for Napoli, who can safely focus on their next match against Fiorentina in Serie A.
