Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso hailed his team for “a heroic victory” down to 10 men against Atalanta, reaching the Coppa Italia Quarter-Finals.

The Viola will face Inter at San Siro on January 29 after managing to eliminate last season’s Finalists, 2-1 at the Stadio Franchi.

“This victory was undoubtedly the most beautiful, against a very strong opponent and down to 10 men,” Commisso told Rai Sport.

Josip Ilicic had cancelled out the Patrick Cutrone opener when German Pezzella received a second yellow card for a dive in the box, but Pol Lirola snatched a late win.

“I don’t think Pezzella deserved that red card. We spent money on Cutrone, even if some say we don’t make investments, and he scored a great goal. Erick Pulgar’s pass for Lirola was phenomenal.

“I saw the team improving and in all three recent games we have scored the opening goal. I think Beppe Iachini has brought something more to this team and it was a heroic victory.”
