Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly wishes he could sack Gennaro Gattuso and recall Carlo Ancelotti, who has a new job at Everton.

The Partenopei have lost four out of Gattuso’s five Serie A games since replacing Ancelotti on December 10, including last night’s dismal 2-0 home defeat to Fiorentina.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, De Laurentiis was so angry at the slide in performances as well as results that he wishes he could recall Ancelotti.

That won’t be possible, because the Champions League winning tactician already found himself a new job with Everton on December 22.

The Toffees have won three and lost two – to Liverpool and Manchester City – since taking over at Goodison Park.

Meanwhile, Gattuso announced last night that the squad had decided to go into a training retreat.

Napoli’s season could go from bad to worse over the next week, as they host Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-final, then welcome Serie A leaders Juventus.
