The Pipita's agent openly declared that a departure from the Neapolitan team was in the player's agenda, and many are awaiting a response by notoriously outspoken president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

But there has been no exchange of words so far, and while this may have to do with the fact that De Laurentiis is currently believed to be in the United States, La Repubblica claims it's part of a deliberate strategy.

Apparently, the higher echelons at Napoli are confident that the player's strong relationship with the environment and the fans will dampen his desire to leave. They are therefore trying to avoid a confrontation that could lead matters to escalate, trusting that the tension will eventually smooth itself out.

Should this not happen, Higuain will be sold via his buy-out clause at €94m, which will give the Partenopei an immense influx of cash to reinvest on the market.

Among the players who could replace Higuain there are Inter's Icardi, Liverpool's Benteke and Everton's Lukaku.
